It has been a very long time since I have updated this, so I'll have a couple more posts coming up soon.  This one will be about a commission for an upcoming Lord of the Rings deck called "The Wastes of Eriador" from Fantasy Flight Games. It was a pretty straightforward project, here is what the AD sent: Description: Ally. A Guard of the Citadel, dressed in silver with a helm of mithril, bearing the carved wings of sea-birds. He stands guard next to the open gate leading into the topmost tier of Minas Tirith, where we can see the leafless White Tree of Gondor standing prominently behind him. So here is the drawing I sent: Honour Guard Sketch , 10"x10", pencil on Strathmore 400 series, 2014. This was approved, so I went ahead and did the final using oil on masonite. The Golem of Prague , 12"x 16", Oil on Paper on Masonite, 2013. Back in August, at Gen Con Indy, I was approached by a man who was starting a book called "Lands and Legends".  It is a book of illustrations based on various myths, legends and fantastic places, from all cultures around the world.  I was saying yes to his pitch in no time.  There was already a huge list of amazing illustrators involved and he had a great financial plan for this book that would involve a Kickstarter campaign.  He had a list of ideas for various subjects that would meet his criteria, as I glossed over the list, "The Golem of Prague" jumped out at me and my mind was made up that this was my subject matter.  The Golem has been a subject I have wanted to paint since I came back from Prague four years ago.  I went to a service in the Old New Synagogue (depicted in the background of the painting) with my Wife and Father-In-Law, knowing full well that what was left...

Today's wolf is Lady.  She was the first one to die and so we never quite knew what role she would have played in Sansa's life and how things would have been had she stayed in the story.  Would Sansa have been a fiercer character? Would Lady have played a part in killing any main characters? Or would she have been the lamest of the Direwolves and been kept in a life of ribbons in her hair and had a vegetarian diet?  We'll never know, I like to think she would have made Sansa stronger and made Joffrey fear torturing Sansa so much. Here we see Lady just a few moments before her impending doom. And a Happy New Year Everyone!  Last year was the Best Year of my life, so I'm hope this year will be only slightly less good.

No Further, 14" x 24", Oil on Paper on Masonite, 2012  Finally, I have finished this piece.  I photographed the model back in October, finished the drawing in November, then got a couple jobs, planned a wedding, got married and went on a honeymoon.  Once we got back from Croatia, I finally had some time to paint. This piece is meant to be in something of a series that I'm slowly working on with "December Maple".  They both have a similar feeling, with a figure reacting to and interacting with nature.  I want to show a sense of memory with these paintings, a feeling of solitude, oneness with nature, and a slight sense of longing.  This piece is more tragic than "December Maple", there's more despair and loss with this piece.  I can't wait to work on more of this series, it really gives me fulfillment as an artist.
