I have just finished another two paintings in my ongoing Prehistoric Creatures series.  The most recent four in the series have all been mammals that lived millions of years after the dinosaurs went extinct.  I plan to do seven of these mammals and then go back to dinosaurs, maybe group them into Prehistoric Creatures Series 1, Series 2, etc.  They are all for sale, but they have been snatched up quick, so if anyone as inquiries on pricing, please email me at owweberillustration@gmail.com . Yesterday, I received my contributor copy of Elder Sign: Omens of Ice which holds the painting "Frostbite" that I painted for it last year.  The idea behind it was that it was a man who had been frostbitten in his hands and face, in a New England town in the early 20th c., I believe.  The AD wanted him screaming and being brought into an ambulance.  I love doing this type of stuff, but I'm never given these types of assignments, so I was very excited.  And a word to the wise, don't google image search "frostbite", it's truly awful to look at.  Here is the sketch that I came up with: Frostbite Sketch, 12" x 8", Pencil. Though I did not do all the challenges of the Month of Love tumblr blog, I did do two.  I tried to come up with good ideas for the other two challenges, but for whatever reason, it just didn't work out.  So here are the two that I did complete. The first piece I painted was for the Second week, the challenge being: Language of Love.  I thought it was an interesting idea to convey the ways animals show love to their owners.  This image came to mind.  Though we have never had a mouse problem, our cat has on occasion displayed a waterbug or two it has killed.  I was able to piece together a couple reference photos I took of our cat for this piece, so it worked as a nice portrait of Mim.  I painted this all in one sitting, something I haven't done in quite some time. Greenseer's Raven , 12"x 10", oil on paper on masonite, 2014. ©Fantasy Flight Games When it rains, it pours.  I have always found this statement to be strangely true.  I may go a long time between jobs, but once I get a new commission a couple others will follow.  And like yesterday, when I have news to tell (like a blog post that was well overdue) a couple other tidbits came to my knowledge within an hour or so. Firstly, a card commission I have been waiting patiently to show for the past year, has finally been released!  It's called "Greenseer's Raven", and it is part of the "Secrets and Schemes" deck of the A Game of Thrones LCG from Fantasy Flight Games.  I was very excited to get this commission last year; firelight and animals are always fun to paint.  There isn't much of a story behind this one though, I found reference of a raven, and just improvised from there.  I tried to work in as many diagonals with the tree branches a...

This year will be my first year having a booth at GenCon.  It will be located in Artist Alley, so if you are in the Indianapolis area from Thursday the 15th through Sunday the 18th, please come by and check it out.  GenCon is a super fun convention dedicated to card gaming, and even if you don't necessarily play, its cool to just browse the floor and see the art. I have also finished my latest dwarf painting, it's called "The Flawed Reign of Fægår" and it's a follow-up to another painting I did a while back called "Fægår the Fearless".  In my mind this is a story about a young dwarf who showed how courageous he was on the battlefield, killing many a foe.  When it became the time for the dwarves to elect a new leader, they naturally felt Fægår would be the leader they needed.  Unfortunately, Fægår did not know anything more than war strategies and smiting evil, so when it came to the more subtle aspects of ruling, he didn't know the right direct...

Finally, wrapping this series up is, personally, my favorite direwolf, Ghost.  Ghost is the runt, sort of.  He's the odd man out.  He's albino, and a perfect companion to Jon Snow.  He makes Jon more terrifying to his opponents, and he makes Jon look like a leader to his brothers in Black.  Ghost is one of the only animals in "A Song of Ice and Fire," that moves the story along.  He finds dead bodies in the snow, he brings Jon to save Commander Mormont, and much more. Here I have tried to show Ghost at his most ghostly.  In a snowstorm north of the wall, his body blending in with the landscape, and all you can see is his deep red eyes. So here concludes this series, hope you have all enjoyed it.  I will put these images on my website soon and then put prints and originals on etsy .  

Today's wolf is arguably the most ruthless of all the Direwolves. Robb has trained Greywind to be a warrior and all of Westeros knows this. Greywind is known as being Robb's right hand and a force that has to be dealt with in order to defeat Robb. Here I have shown him in the middle of the battlefield, looking his angriest.

Today's wolf is Summer. Here I show him when he was still in Winterfell under a weirwood tree. Summer is a wolf that I really loved from the beginning when he killed Bran's assassin. I love how protective he has been and how connected he and Bran have been from the start. Now they have almost become the same character.

Today's wolf is Lady.  She was the first one to die and so we never quite knew what role she would have played in Sansa's life and how things would have been had she stayed in the story.  Would Sansa have been a fiercer character? Would Lady have played a part in killing any main characters? Or would she have been the lamest of the Direwolves and been kept in a life of ribbons in her hair and had a vegetarian diet?  We'll never know, I like to think she would have made Sansa stronger and made Joffrey fear torturing Sansa so much. Here we see Lady just a few moments before her impending doom. And a Happy New Year Everyone!  Last year was the Best Year of my life, so I'm hope this year will be only slightly less good.

This is my second of six posts showing my series of the Direwolves from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books. This is Shaggydog, Rickon's wolf. He is quite a fierce protective pet, but I wanted to show him in a calmer state, wandering the snowy terrain.

This is the first of the series of Direwolves portraits from the " A Song of Ice and Fire" series of books by George R.R. Martin. These are meant to be seen as portraits of the characters but also they can be seen as just portraits of wolves, coinciding with my series of other portraits of mammals. Here you can see Nymeria with her pack roaming through the woods. Each of these paintings are only 5" x 5". Everyday this week I will unveil another wolf, and once that is done I will put them on my etsy page for purchase as an original or as prints.
