No Further, 14" x 24", Oil on Paper on Masonite, 2012  Finally, I have finished this piece.  I photographed the model back in October, finished the drawing in November, then got a couple jobs, planned a wedding, got married and went on a honeymoon.  Once we got back from Croatia, I finally had some time to paint. This piece is meant to be in something of a series that I'm slowly working on with "December Maple".  They both have a similar feeling, with a figure reacting to and interacting with nature.  I want to show a sense of memory with these paintings, a feeling of solitude, oneness with nature, and a slight sense of longing.  This piece is more tragic than "December Maple", there's more despair and loss with this piece.  I can't wait to work on more of this series, it really gives me fulfillment as an artist.

Soon after I finished the Warhammer: Invasion pieces, I was asked to contribute to the Valar Dohaeris deck in the Game of Thrones LCG.  The AD asked me to do a character card of Shireen Baratheon.  She is the daughter of Stannis Baratheon and she has Greyscale on her cheek and neck.  The AD wanted an image of her looking up at a giant at The Wall, and he wanted it from the perspective of the giant. Martin had to give the final OK on the image just makes me so happy.

I just saw that my card, Purged by Flame, has been released on the Fantasy Flight Games website, so I figure it's fine to do a post.  I did this at the same time as the last image I posted, Boon of Tzeentch.  It was a super fun to do, I love to do flames, elves, and purging, so it was right up my alley.  It started with the drawing: ©Fantasy Flight Games The main focus of the piece was the gauntlet in the flame, so I went with a more severe perspective to put that up front.  I got the ok from the AD and so I moved on to the final painting. ©Fantasy Flight Games After sending the image to get accepted by the higher-up's, they thought the armor needed to change, helmet needed to be gone, and spear needed to get changed to a shield.  So after painting in those changes, this is what came out:   ©Fantasy Flight Games I thought I was going to change the final image back to the original, because I loved the helmet so much, and I put so mu...

Finally I am able to release my first piece for Fantasy Flight Games.  It's called Boon of Tzeentch and it was done for the newly released Warhammer: Invasion deck called Fragments of Power.  I don't always push myself to do demonic, dark work all the time so it was fun to get to do a piece like this. So it started with the drawing: I like to keep my drawings more linear, I've found in the painting stage that makes the image more clear to me, especially if there is a lot of detail, like this one, of which I need to keep track. ©Fantasy Flight Games Once the art director accepted the drawing I moved onto the painting stage.  It started out where just the eyes were glowing from the power of Tzeentch (and since the character, a chaos sorcerer, had an eye in his hand I thought that would be a nice touch for his hand to glow).  But once the art director saw how that looked she wanted the light streaming from the tattoos overcoming his body. ©Fantasy Flight Gam...

So I got married May 13th.  It was very fun and everything went really smoothly.  I think everyone had a good time.  Sarah and I did the wedding ourselves, and did a lot of customization to make the wedding look as cool as possible.  It started with this: This was the Save the Date card we sent back in September.  I was highly influenced by a Ukrainian illustrator's, Vladislav Erko, playing cards.  The card's edges were rounded so it the edges looked better in print, like they had been worn.  I did this all in photoshop with my new tablet, it was a lot of fun to try painting that way again, I hadn't digitally painted since college.  Then we got working on the theme of the wedding, which naturally became based on medieval royalty.  Sarah came up with the idea for the invitations.  They were based on medieval funerary rubbings: I made them to look as close to us while still being stylized.  We were able to find awesome ...

FINALLY!  I know it took me a super long time to show a new piece.  That will change soon, I'm pretty sure the pieces I have been doing for Fantasy Flight Games will be released in the upcoming weeks and months.  But as for this piece, I started this piece as a Viking project for Running with Paintbrushes .  As I got going I was delightfully interrupted many times with new commissions and a need for designing my wedding invitations.  This is a small event that happens during Ragnarok, the Norse Armageddon, where Fenrir, a giant wolf, swallows Odin, the Norse Zeus, whole.  Don't worry, because later one of Odin's sons,   Víðarr, cuts Fenrir's belly open, freeing Odin. So this is my depiction of that event.  I am Danish, so I take my viking heritage very seriously.  I have 2 viking themed tattoos, and collect as much Scandinavian things as possible.  Next year my future wife and I are planning a trip to Denmark.  Can't wait.  ...
